All About Farms

It’s hustling and bustling in the School for the Deaf kindergarten! We are well underway with our Farm unit! Students have been learning about where food comes from and how it is harvested as well as more about farm animals and the life cycle of a pumpkin.

To enhance students’ learning, we visited the Colorado Kids Ranch in Monument where CSDB Preschool students join us for the first time! They pet alpacas, pigs, horses, donkeys and chickens, enjoyed playing a variety of games, rode the tractor hayride, fixed hot chocolate and picked out small pumpkins to bring back to school. We kept the pumpkins at CSDB and painted a variety of emotions on the pumpkins as part of our Zones of Regulation lessons.

Our play-based centers are tied in with the farm unit. We have a horse trainer station with toy horses and costumes, a barn and outside area to sort the animals, and at the light table there are fine motor activities that involve lacing up around the edges of varying farm animals. We will continue our farm learning until it’s time to hit the hay!
