ASL and English supports

Written by Sabra Taylor, ASL Specialist and Coach

As an ASL specialist & coach, I'm fortunate to work with many awesome teachers at CSDB. This month, K/1 teacher, Rachella, is teaching about animals that hibernate and migrate. I supported her class by creating visual support slides with English vocabulary words and ASL vocabulary signs in GIFs with a focus on ASL location. Students will determine each sign match in a specific body location. Sarah's 1st & 2nd-grade students work on the Bilingual Grammar Curriculum. Students currently focus on the “complete idea”. We discussed how our ASL and English grammar must include both, subject & predicate in the sentence that makes sense. We had some silly ASL sentences as PIG FLY. Students edited it into PIG PLAYS IN-MUD & BIRD FLY.
