ASL Walk

September 2024

In recognition of Deaf Awareness month, Deerfield Hills Community Center Parks and Recreation and Cultural Services invited our ASL Team to participate in an ASL Story Walk at Panorama Park in Colorado Springs. Our team brought big books for storytelling, which enabled the littles ones to easily see the pictures. As our ASL team told the story and acted out the characters, it was so cute watching the children and their parents copy the signs and act out the characters.
They also walked around the park showing signs for grass, climbing, swinging, etc. Some parents were familiar with the signs since they participated in our ASL story time offered in collaboration with Pikes Peak Library District.  Seeing the families use ASL has inspired the Deaf staff at CSDB to continue working with the families on their ASL skills.
Outside, one woman holds a large book with a picture of a giraffe, while two more women signed the story in ASL.
