On Wednesday, November 13, 2024, blind students from BTL got to go on a field trip to the Broadmoor Hotel and explored the Penrose Heritage Museum. The museum is comprised of three different exhibits, the first being the historic carriage house museum as well as the PPIHC (Pikes Peak International Hill Climb) Museum. Students learned more about the history of Colorado Springs, several philanthropists such as Julie and Spencer Penrose and their legacy creating the El Pomar Foundation. Students got the chance to tactilely explore several carriages, large money safes, and other artifacts. Students were also given the opportunity to explore the history of the main building of the Broadmoor Hotel and the surrounding area. The purpose of this trip was to explore recreation and leisure activities, social interaction skills and sensory efficiency skills that tie in to the Expanded Core Curriculum.
