Championing the Students

After the ups and downs of the previous school year, the uncertainties, and back-and-forth from online to in-person learning, myself and elementary teammate Jerred Sonneborn decided that we need to praise the students more for showing up every day to learn. Last year was strenuous and confusing for our students, yet they still showed up every day and put forth their best effort.

This year, from the get-go, we are committed to highlighting a student every week, in our respective classes, who demonstrated growth, tenacity, hard work, or simply didn’t give up. We work with outstanding little people who deserve constant praise for their efforts. At the end of each week we will choose two different students to win the Math Star of the Week as well as the Literacy Star of the Week. The students who are awarded that week will be able to keep the trophy on their desk for the whole next week, have their name displayed outside our classrooms, AND hear the praise from Ms. Lugo on the Friday morning announcements!

We cannot wait to shower these students with much-deserved praise! ~ Submitted by Grace Gundel, TVI School for the Blind

Posters stacked vertically and horizontally with large stars. Text: ‘THIS WEEK’S LITERACY STARS!' or 'THIS WEEK’S MATH STARS!' both say, 'BLOCKS 1&5, BLOCKS 2&6, and BLOCK 4&8.’

Two trophies: left, rounded gold star with marble base- text ‘Math Star’; right, wooden hand with flexible fingers spray painted gold with random modge-podged text, foam star stickers and 3D letters that spell out ‘LITERACY.’
