Day of the Dead
On November 2nd, the School for the Deaf middle school classes celebrated Dia de los Muertos—Day of the Dead. We made an ofrenda (altar)and put traditional food objects on it along with some pictures of loved ones who had passed on. We learned (and many students already knew) that the purpose of this celebration was to remember the happy times with family and friends from the past. We had food—lots of conchas, horchata and Mexican wedding cookies. Students then put on Day of the Dead makeup; it was a creative, entertaining day!
