Dr. Debbie Mood - Autism Spectrum Disorder training

Written by Kelly Dolittle and Kirsten Gardzelewski

Recently, 18 early intervention providers for children who are deaf/hard of hearing from Colorado’s CHIP (Colorado Home Intervention Program) and Wyoming’s WEII (Wyoming Early Intervention Initiative) Plus Program participated in a training around Autism Spectrum Disorder: Screening to Intervention for children who are D/HH presented by Dr Debbie Mood.  Participants attended from both states virtually, either individually or in small groups to learn about this important topic.

Dr Mood (Ph.D. in School Psychology, UNC and Specialist Psychology Degree, Gallaudet), whose primary appointment within Developmental Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital Colorado emphasizes clinical assessment and treatment of children with developmental disabilities, shared a wealth of knowledge and practical strategies for early interventionists to use with families who have children who may have ASD. Her presentation included the most current information related to prevalence, the newest research, screening tools and intervention ideas. Her messages were powerful and motivating to those who are in this field working with young children.

It is exciting to know so many providers will be going back into homes with new information and useful strategies to best meet the needs of the families and children we support through early intervention!
