At the beginning of October, the Chemistry students at the School for the Blind made an experiment to create Rock Candy. It’s very easy to make! You only need water, sugar, and patience, since it takes about a week to get results. Making this sweet is a great example of crystallization, a process in which one can extract a solute from a solution. First you must boil the water, pour three times as much sugar and stir until all the sugar is dissolved. Then pour the solution into a heat proof container, put a popsicle stick in the middle so the sugar can slowly crystallize onto it. And finally, wait. Do you want to know the best part of the experiment? You can eat the product.
