Students Interview a Web Developer

Students in the School for the Blind Digital Media Technology class had the opportunity to speak with Mikel Howarth, a web developer with T-Mobile. Additionally, he teaches an open-source software class called Dev Delta through GitHub. Mikel took many questions from students over the course of the class period. Mikel explained that he has been a developer for 4 years. Prior to coding, Mikel had been a barista with Dutch Bros., but became interested in coding through his wife.

He mentioned that blind and visually impaired students have a unique perspective and have different insights into how to access the internet. Mr. Haworth explained that he enjoys coding, “as he likes being challenged at his job and has the tools to solve those challenges.” He finds coding to be extremely rewarding as it requires him to critically think. Mikel said that most programmers start off with self-doubt, but with hard work and determination they can become great programmers.
