In our School for the Deaf Topics in World History class, Teacher Susie O’Hara and class have been studying challenges faced by countries that students' families have come from. We have studied the causes and effects of: the Irish Potato Famine, the El Salvadoran Civil War, and in Mexico the “disappearance” of 43 male college students in 2014. Learning this information from research, comparisons, documentaries and discussions has helped us understand why these countries struggled, and in some cases, continue to struggle.
