Zones Room

The School for the Blind Zone’s Room, focuses on providing a safe and calming space for students to decompress and develop socially appropriate coping strategies, using the Zones of Regulation curriculum. Students learn that emotions can be classified into four zones-red, yellow, blue, and green. No emotion is good or bad, as we all experience a variety of emotions. Yet, there are ways we can more appropriately and safely respond to our emotions.  Designed with the Zones of Regulation in mind, the room is divided into four distinct sections. In the green zone, students participate in academic and social skills lessons. When students are feeling overwhelmed by academic, social, or sensory needs they can request a break in the blue or yellow zone. The blue zone includes giant bean bags, swings, dim lighting, and a massage chair and is slightly removed from the hustle and bustle of the green zone. When students are feeling excited and needing to move their bodies, they can utilize the trampoline, swing, and treadmill. Just as our emotions change throughout the day, students in the Zone’s Room can flow throughout the room based on their current social-emotional needs
