1874
- Founded the Colorado Institute for the Education of Mutes
- The first building was a house on Cucharras and Tejon until the Main building was built.
- The first day of school was April 8, 1874, with seven students attending.
- Ten acres just east of the city were donated by the Colorado Springs Land Company.
- Founder Jonathan Kennedy was appointed as Superintendent.
- Major H. McAllister donated the first printing press to the students and on January 30, 1875 the first copy of the "Deaf-Mute Index" was printed. The name of the publication was later changed to the "Colorado Index". Through this publication, these stories of CSDB have been preserved.
1876
- The main building was completed at a cost of $5,000 and school resumed on Institute Street.
